Supported Employment
CVR’s Supported Employment program is designed to help both adults and students with special needs gain and maintain employment in the community. Through individualized support, job coaching, and skill-building services, participants receive the tools they need to enter the workforce with confidence.
How it Works
Individuals are referred to the Supported Employment program through schools, DVRS, partial care programs, extended employment, or other agencies. Each participant is paired with an Employment Specialist who works closely with them to assess their interests, skills, and workplace goals. From resume writing to interview preparation and on-the-job coaching, the support is tailored to each person’s unique path.
Employment Specialists continue to offer support as needed, gradually stepping back as participants become more comfortable and independent in their roles.

Career Academy
The Career Academy serves students from various school districts who need vocational and skill-based training. Students are assessed individually and placed into a program that helps them grow in areas such as:
Production & warehouse
Computers & clerical administration
Retail, hospitality, and maintenance
Training includes vocational skill-building and daily living education. Students can attend full-day or half-day sessions, and a community-based component gives them the opportunity to apply their skills in real work environments.
Specialized Pathways
Pre-Employment Transition Services
This DVRS-supported service is designed for students not yet ready to enter the workforce. Employment Specialists help students explore career interests, practice soft skills, build resumes, and participate in job sampling prior to placement.
Trial Work Experience (TWE)
For individuals referred by DVRS who may not yet be ready for community employment, TWE provides a safe, evaluative setting to assess capability and potential. If a participant needs further preparation, they may be referred to additional services to build readiness.
Joseph Kohen Training Center Career Services
In collaboration with the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI), this 14-week program equips visually impaired students with key skills in technology, daily living, braille, and workplace readiness. Graduates participate in community-based job samplings in fields such as hospitality, retail, higher education, and clerical support.
Paid Internships
In partnership with school districts and DVRS, this program allows students to gain firsthand job experience and earn a paycheck while receiving structured support.
